Save Money on Your Corn Crop with Spring Nitrogen Testing

Image
The Late Spring Nitrogen Test can help you save money on Fertilizer
Now is the time to think about using the Late Spring Nitrogen Test to evaluate how much additional nitrogen (N) fertilizer is most economical for your corn crops. Available nitrogen varies from year to year and even field to field depending on a number of factors. We often apply the recommended nitrogen to our fields without knowing what is really there but the LSNT offers a good way to assess how much money is either gained or lost based on this years N application. Recent rains may have caused nitrogen losses from denitrification, but that may not be everywhere. The LSNT was designed so that you can better estimate how much N you need given these kind of uncertainties that seem to crop up almost every year.

New Park Along Whetstone

ImageThe Village of Cardington has retained the landscape design firm Edsall & Associates for the development of a master park plan in Cardington.  This park master plan includes the development of a new 35 acre park located along the banks of the Whetstone Creek, a tributary of the Olentangy.  The 35 acre park was previously used as pasture land for Riverside Dairy, and was donated in January of 2006 by former Cardington Mayor Cecil Maxwell.

This new park is part of an effort in Cardington to provide recreational opportunities for area residents, and to make the Whetstone the center of those opportunities.  Founded in 1857, the Village of Cardington was originally formed around a series of mills that utilized water from the Whetstone for power.  As the Village enters the 21st century, the Whetstone is again becoming an important feature in the town, because the floodplain that follows the creek has been identifed as a key area for the development of trails as well as soccer and baseball fields.
